Bin fix und fertig, das hat eine Bekannte mir gerade eben geschickt.
ZitatAlles anzeigenYesterday afternoon we arrived home around 3:30p.m. from Mekaela's (Grandchild) Christmas Concert. Having had a busy week with Monday and Tuesday in Truro, and Wednesday to Halifax for Connie's (Grandchild) concert, I was absolutely BUSHED, so promptly crashed on the sofa for a ...long winter's nap., when out on the back deck I heard a whimpering that sounded like a very young dog.
So, I got up, ventured to the back door, and saw prints, but no puppy. Back to the sofa, and almost asleep, when, again, whimpering sounds at the back door. Looked again, prints of little paws, but no puppy.
On and off this went through the evening....and, finally, off to bed, wondering if the little creature would last the night, under the deck.
At five o'clock this a.m., when Dad got up to read, he again heard the whimpering of the little one at the back door. This time, maybe loneliness, or maybe plain hunger and thirst drove the little one, but there it stood, shaking and cold......a very young Golden Labrador, or a cross breed of this variety.
Again, as soon as he spoke to the pup.....no more than four or five weeks old, it trembled and shook, but puppy-waddled away, as fast as its little legs would go, back to the security of a hole in the deep snow under the deck.
Would it be strong enough to live? A look at our outdoor thermometer confirmed the idea that it was cold: -26 C. and the little one had been out since sometime in early afternoon, no warmth, no food, no-one to hold it. Its little bum was covered in black, as if starvation had started and the diarrhoea had begun.
Call after call was made to try and convince it that we were a "safe" house, and that we would help. Nothing worked. Again, utter silence.
I called Shubie Vets and told them the situation. Not to be outdone, Kelley said there was a Vet ion his way out, and he would be bringing an assistant with him. Shortly, up the lane came the vet, his helper, and their sense of urgency to try to capture and save this wee one.
The Vet took the shovel and started to dig around the deck....snow flying off the shovel as he dug, trying from time to time to see if he could locate the little one.......he knew things were urgent.
Finally, a whimper, then another, and the Vet said,"Get the loop-catcher out of the van, Shelley." She ran quickly to the van, brought up the gadget, passed it to Dr. Lawson. One little catch of the loop and out came our mystery puppy......so cold it was shivering and shaking, and so weak it could hardly move on its own. He opened his jacket and shoved the pup inside. Then he brought the little 4-lb. baby into our kitchen, and asked me to warm some bath towels in the dryer. He fed the baby some cat food that was in a bowl on the kitchen floor, and gave it a drink of warm water. Then he borrowed Buffy and Babes" carrier, folded the baby dog into the warm bath towels, and off they went to see if they could revive and save. He said its eyes looked quite clear, but that it's gums were starting to turn white.....death was on its way.
So, little "Lucky" who is a little girl, spent a long, very cold, and lonely night, but now is at the Vet Clinic, where she will have about six doctors to look after her. Hopefully, with her strong little spirit, the pup will live and find a really good home with people who will love her.
Isn't this a Christmas miracle....to think that some mean-spirited person would drop her off, only a tiny baby, way down our driveway, and that she would make it up here, and have someone rescue her? She's a special little puppy, and the Vet who went out of his way to rescue her is also a very special young man. Thank God for people like him.
