Praxis-Seminar mit Jane Killion

Samstag, 8. September 2012 um 09:30 - Sonntag, 9. September 2012 um 17:00

Ort
Golmbach
Chakanyuka - Clickertraining and More

Seminarsprache Englisch, deutsche Übersetzung, Script auf Deutsch.

Themes of the Seminar:

1) Pigs Fly fundamentals and Introduction to free shaping behaviors

• Seminar begins with a brief PowerPoint and video presentation on the scientific fundamentals of training behaviors and free shaping.

•Free shaping stations are set up with a different behavior to be trained at each station. Students pick a behavior out of a hat and then each get to free shape one of my dogs to do it while the rest of the class watches. This enables the students to get a better understanding of how free shaping ultimately works. Working with an experienced dog gives students a feeling of confidence that will help them train their own dogs.

•Finally, students bring their own dogs out and work through basic free shaping exercises

2) Attention as a Behavior

Most people do not realize that attention is a behavior that can be taught like any other. By the end of the seminar, the goal is that things that the dogs currently find distracting (like other dogs barking, judges following them, crazy noises) will simply become cues for more attention and focus.

We will shape not only attention and focus, but an excited, anticipatory attitude, as well. Topics will vary, depending on the specific needs of the group, but topics may include:

•Performance in the presence of other dogs

•Performance in the presence of other people

•Performance around food/toy distraction

•Recalls with distraction

•Start line focus

•Stay/release

3) Pigs Fly Pets

This seminar lays out a basic system for pet owners to live with and enjoy their dogs. While this seminar will teach specific useful behavior and how to solve specific problems, the real focus is on teaching the students how to create a protocol for dealing with any future problems or issues that may arise. Topics include:

•Free shaping basic foundation behaviors – sit, come, loose leash walking and more, if time permits

•Free shaping the most important foundation behavior of all – attention. Dogs will learn attention as a behavior

•Taking it on the road - performing behaviors with focus and attention in various contexts

•Learning how to solve standard behavior problems through the use of foundation behaviors.

•Learning management and training strategies for daily life

•Understanding motivation, reinforcers, and punishers.

•Learning to use the dogs natural behaviors to train him

Biography:
Jane’s passion is helping people who have been told that their dog “just has an attitude” or is incapable of learning. Jane developed the When Pigs Fly (WPF) training system -
a scientific reinforcement-based training system that works especially well with
“difficult to train” dogs. She’s used the WPF system since 1997 to successfully train seven Bull Terriers and two Australian Cattle Dogs to dozens of agility and obedience titles,
while at the same time teaching them to be great companions. By using the WPF
training system, Jane has helped hundreds
of students around the world realize their dreams and find a new connection with their canine companions. Most of all, Jane never trains for mere compliance – she teaches her students how to shape a dog who vibrates with happiness when training.

Jane lives in New Jersey, USA with a houseful of Bull Terriers and an Australian Cattle Dog. She breeds and shows Bull Terriers under the Madcap prefix. Her dogs have appeared in magazines and on television. She has contributed several dog training articles to various publications. Her website is http://www.whenpigsflydogtraining.com
